PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo - Electro acoustic shootout
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.Год назад
I'm comparing my latest guitar purchase to some old favorites here at Disgracelands. The guitars used are the Vintage VEC 501BGB, the PRS SE P20E Parlour guitar, and a Yamaha AC3R. Sounds are run through Reaper, and some VST's to simulate a real world situation. All guitars have the same effects and settings other than compression threshold, which has been adjusted to the volume of each guitar....
Robboland live looper jam. Guitars, sequencers, drums, wobbly noises, and flashing lights ! Nice.

A Robboland late night looper jam from here at Disgracelands. I used the IK Multimedia Uno synth, Korg Kaossilator Android app, Boss ME80, PRS SE P20E Parlour guitar, and the Fender Player Series Strat. It took a ton of wires to hook this up, and I think I'm now in the market for a small 6 or 8 channel stereo mixer, if anyone has any suggestions for a budget friendly solution. Flashing lights w...

I got this pedal as a present for my Brother. I had to test it out before I gave it to him, obviously. Strings, Choirs, huge swirly distorted howling guitars, I had to do it ! Looper jam with the Electro-Harmonix MEL9, Boss ME-80, BossRC-500 looper, and the Fernandes Retro Rocket Pro, Sustainer guitar. My Brother loves the pedal, we jammed for a couple of hours at the weekend, it sounded epic, ...

Some ideas of how to use slash chords to add a bit of spice to chord progressions, an update on things here at D'lands, and news of a cross-channel collaboration. The guitars used are the Yamaha AC3R, and the Ibanez AG95QA, going through a Boss ME-80 and a Boss RC 500 Looper.

Boss RC-500 looper arrives at Robboland. 1st impressions, red wine, and looper jam !

I just bought the Boss RC-500 looper, and here are my initial impressions on functions, ease of use, future potential, and the multitude of flashing lights. It's a great piece of kit, and I'm really looking forward to getting to grips with it and seeing where it leads. There's a brief rant about red wine labelling, before we return to talking about the looper, and it all ends with a live looper...
1981 USA Fender Bullet, Relic rant, and Starcaster looper jam !

My Fender Bullet makes an appearance, it's old and worn, but is it a relic ? I take a tongue in cheek look at the concept of relic guitars, (apologies to any ducks watching), and pose the question, do you have what it takes to be a real Rock & Roller ? There's also a big and groovy looper jam, with the Squier Starcaster and various other things, and if you don't like that, you can just look at ...

Yamaha AC3R arrives at Robboland. Demo and looper jam.

I bought a new electro acoustic guitar last week. The Yamaha AC3R ARE is solid wood in construction, and has some trick electronics up it's sleeve. Here's my thoughts, a short acoustic demo, and a looper jam. In short, I like it, and can recommend it as one to consider. Thanks for watching, Robbo.
Welcome Mr. Landsvids, I've been expecting you. Bond Theme mash-up Ovation looper jam.

An innocent looper jam which took an unexpected twist somewhere along the way. I've tried to avoid copyright issues by basically not knowing what I was doing, a great tip I think you'll agree. My old faithful Ovation Standard Balladeer is going into a Boss ME80, running an acoustic amp sim, compressor, two delays, a reverb, a little chorus, and a bonus Turbo Overdrive, just for added teeth. Get to the sustainer and stop goofing around 😊 Just kidding but c’mon get to the sustainer
My goofing is my trademark :)
Obviously 😊
Thanks! Great, detailed critique ! You sold me. The world of the plectrum is still coming of age.
Excellent. 3 years on and they're still my "go to" pick. Cheers.
Nice man.
Thank you, I hope you're keeping well. Cheers, Robbo.
Nice presentation Thank you. As to the pick-up cross fader that appears to work counter- intuitively: Replace the knob with a marked or pointed type such as a chickenhead knob. If the beak of said chicken is installed to point upwards in the center or balanced position of the pot - you can feel it somehow click hone there - tipping to the neck will bring in theneck p.u., tipping to the tail the piezo bridge p.u. as though it were natural.
Thank you. I have got used to it now, despite my initial confusion. I'm not beyond sticking labels on my guitars to explain things though, my Sustainer guitar has very confusing switching and I've never got used to that ! Cheers, Robbo.
I really enjoyed the show, love your creative playing too.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Cheers, Robbo
Sounds really out of tune
It isn't, maybe you should clean your ears.
love it. that's the one i want.
It's a good, solid guitar. Go for it, they turn up at reasonable prices second hand, good luck !
shut up and play already
Thanks for the video; helped tremendously on deciding if I'd buy one. Found one yesterday for 200$ and quite like it!
Oh that's great, a good price as well. I'm happy I could help. Cheers, Robbo.
robbolandsvids....In fact...that is a 1981 Fender Bullet One Standard...
Nice one, thank you.
Nice one, Robbo. Great review. I like them too. Never got on too well with thumb picks but kept trying so that I could use finger picks (Alaska). Recently discovered these and they are easy to use. So far, it's Heavy for pure thumb picking, Medium for thumb picking combined with strumming, and Light for the 12-string. Money very well spent. The way you play, Robbo, the BMs make less string noise too. I've also got into the Fred Kelly Bumblebee, and that has become my default thumb pick. You can alter the angle on these. To make them stay put I use small strips of Nexcare Absolute Waterproof foam tape over the nail.
Hi Mark, I must admit, I find it hard to go back to my old Dunlop picks now, after using the Black Mountains. I hadn't heard of the Bumble Bees, thanks for the heads up, I will definitely give them a look. Cheers, Robbo
I, from time to time, will find myself not thinking of buying a guitar, some seriously thinking about not buying a guitar and even giving in to temptation of not buying a guitar....then the following day...there is a delivery. What a wonderful thing next day delivery and thinking is!!!
I'm glad it's not just me ! Very best to you, cheers.
Nice Rob. All the best mate.
Many thanks, happy new year to you.
3 years later, God bless you brother. Thank you for the video, very helpful
Thanks, I hope the new year is a good one or you.
Herrlich
Danke.
how is it compared to the new PRS Santana SE? is the old one better?
I don't have a modern Santana, but comparing the old one to my 2018 SE Standard 24, I'd say the newer guitar is better. The pickups have a bit more sparkle to them, and it just feels a bit more tight and ergonomically designed overall. PRS like to make small upgrades to models every few years, so I think the newer guitars will always benefit from that. Cheers, Rob.
Nice to visit the ICEBERG again - - - DAMN WINNNNNTERRRRRRR , though without it , springtime would just be another dull day ? ? ?
Virtuoso Di Robbo! Bravissimo!! Ciao Bella!!!
Ciao e grazie !
I recently acquired one exactly the same as the one in the video for £70. Bargain.
Oh nice one. It's certainly an interesting guitar, shame nobody else really developed the idea.
Thanks for your useful video. Honestly if you closed your eyes and listened, you'd have to admit the PRS sounds like a $150 piezo acoustic. But maybe thats the compromise.
Thanks for the comment, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, I totally agree, I think this sort of hybrid will always be a compromise, and definitely not for everyone. I will say though, as an electric guitar, it's a great piece of kit and makes a lot of sense at the sale price. Cheers, Rob.
Your playing reminds me of the late, great, John Martyn, when he used to 'go off on one.'
Oh thank you, that's a huge compliment, much appreciated. I hope you have a great day. Cheers, Robbo.
Something rather magical happens when you stop the 'waffling' and play those rather interesting and beautiful loops. Thanks.
Hey thanks so much, once I start waffling, it's hard to stop, hahaha. Glad you enjoyed it.
Very cool jam! You are getting me inspired to try some looping Robbo.
Hi Dale, I hope you're well, great to hear from you as always. Yes, you should definitely give it a go, even just a couple of chords can lead to all sorts of adventures :)
Robbo! sounds awesome!!
Many thanks Staley, I hope all is well with you.
Hi Robbo, channelling your inner Mike Oldfield again ? :-} BTW I've watched four guitar related vids today, this is the first where the instrument is in tune! All the best
I enjoy these unplanned jams, but yes, I make sure to tune up first...if the guitar is out of tune, everything is gonna sound bad, no matter how well it's played. Great to hear from you, I hope all is well.
Trippy ! Evening, dude. Hope you're cool & froody. Nice to see a RUclips video that wasn't about some Gen Z twat imposing their life choices on us all...
It's been a long while since I made a video, nobody needs to follow my life choices, hahaha. I hope you're doing okay and enjoying the late blast of Summer. Cheers.

Hi Jamie, all is good here thanks, I hope you're doing well.
Very nice video. Good approach to the demo. I like and will try the tip about piezo volume at half. My PRS arrived two days ago so I am still experimenting.
Hi, thanks for the comment, it's much appreciated. I hope you enjoy the new guitar, I like mine more each time I play it, seems like a great deal at the sale price. Cheers, Robbo.
Thanks.I recently bought the Peacock Blue one from Peach. Really lovely guitar , I haven't had time to plug it in yet.
Oh that's cool, I hope you enjoy it. I like mine more and more each time I play it, a great guitar at that sale price!
love your playing
Thanks so much, I hope you have a great day !
woah, super good
Thank you, I'm enjoying your videos, great sounds !
I have one of the Early Santana's just like that. I did change the pickups, and it's a keeper for sure. I personally like the old solid mahogany PRS bodies, and I love the neck. I got lucky and mine had locking tuners on it. I found a set of Epi Probuckers for 40 bucks, Upgaded the pots and pickups, it's great. Nice solo by the way.
I think the pickup swap is a good move, although I've found they liven up quite a bit with a kick from a boost pedal. Good solid guitar, I'm glad you're enjoying yours.
Great video - subscribed
Many thanks !
Love you're playing, by the way, I have subscribed also !

This is the exact model my father had for a while. He loved the weight and the sounds he got out of it. A very nice guitar, indeed.
That Yamaha was excellent, probably the best acoustic for the $
Definitely worth considering, especially if you're playing live. Acoustically, I'd like a bit more dynamic range, but it sounds bloody amazing, a ton of sustain, and lot of sound to play with.
@@robbolandsvids well I ended up with a PRS Piezo 😁
Oh cool, best of both worlds :)
Got my from Andertons for £799
Nice ! How are you finding it ?
Nice ! Great job 👏 😊
Many thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
Great comparison Robbo! It’s surprising to hear how similar they all sound with just subtle differences. Now you’ve got me thinking about the PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo.
Hi Dale, great to hear from you as always. Yeah, I think with a little bit of eq tweaking, I could probably make them even more similar, ideally I'd tame the top end of the Hollowbody a little, but felt it was best to leave that alone for this video. It's a really well made guitar, the Humbuckers sound great as well, I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed, (and it's very light, about 5 pounds, which is great for our old backs !). Very best to you, Rob.
Does me old heart good to see you back again, sorry to hear about your job redundancy (been there a few times myself). Some cool guitars there Robbo and I look forward to hearing more from them. No matter what folk tell you, or what the spec sheet says it’s a personal thing and sometimes you just connect with an instrument and sometimes you don’t. The thing is to keep on playing. Be well Robbo : )
Hi Jamie, I hope you're well. You're totally right about connecting with an instrument, which is always a bit of a gamble these days what with most purchases being made online, not having touched the guitar beforehand. I know I'm safe going with anything from the PRS Se range though, as I appear to have become a bit of a fanboy of theirs in the last few years and know I can rely on the quality and feel. Acoustic guitars are always my first passion though, so this was a fun video to make, as I don't often play several guitars back to back, and it's made me appreciate the differences and characters of each of them. Take care my friend, cheers from here, Robbo.
the yamaha ac3r kind of blew my mind when I played it, sounded really really good and played even better.
It does sound great, very piano like I think. Amazing sustain and clarity, and feels as solid as a rock. Very happy with it. I hope you're well, very best, Rob.
Great axes Rob. Nice listening to you again. Hope all is well, still sounding great. you pal John from SoCal USA.
It's wonderful to hear from you too John, I hope things are good with you my friend.
oh gosh, I hope you like this one (the prs)!! the ones I've played are excellent!!! Hope you're well friend!
Hi Staley, yeah mate, I love the guitar. I took it over to my Brother's a while ago and gave it a good workout, I'm a big fan of the SE's and this certainly doesn't disappoint.
They all sounded Unique and Awesome. I was wondering how You are. Kinda funny My 19 yr old son asked me if I heard from you lately . He remembered me watching You. I will tell him I Just did. Thanks Brother Rob
Hey, great to hear from you, and say hi to the lad from me, I really appreciate the thought. Yeah, I agree with you, all those guitars do the job very well, I sort of like aspects of them all in their own way. I'm very fortunate to have the choice. Very best to you mate, Rob
@@robbolandsvids Its Good to hear from You Rob. Have Fun and Thanks Bro
Guitars...food...heating...a roof over your head. That's the correct order. Oh, I forgot, beer comes after guitars! All the best to you, Robbo!
My mistake, what was I thinking ? I can always sleep in the hard case the PRS came in :) Take care my friend, I hope all is good with you. Cheers.
Hey Robbo, I agree, all sound good and would do the job for you. For me the Yamaha was the best sounding but as you point out thats not the whole story. The new PRS sounded great considering what it was up against. I have a Parker nitefly that needs a expensive repair on the piezo. Part of me thinks I should get one of these instead. PS being made redundant is bad times, hope things work out for the best.
Hey, great to hear from you, I hope all is well. I've always liked the Parker Fly series guitars, I'd love one at some point but yeah, I know they're quite specialised, so repairs and parts might be harder to come by than more familiar guitars. I do agree, that Yamaha does sound very nice, but overall I was quite surprised at the similarities between them all, and with a bit of careful eq tweaking, I'm sure they could sound even closer. That PRS Hollowbody is a lovely guitar, as expected from them, hard to beat if you can get one at the discounted price. I'm hoping to get my job back soon-ish, but am doing fine in the meantime, many thanks, Robbo.
Evening matey. Nice to see something costing LESS for a change ! Looks like us beer drinkers are gonna get ripped off - again.
Hey mate, hope all is well. I'm always a big fan of buying last year's model, especially with PRS who seem to make only tiny changes when upgrading guitars, lots of bargains to be had. I did hear that the duty on beer from pubs is going to be reduced, but doubt that cost saving will be passed on to us customers. I'll stick to my almost out of date red wines from the bargain bin. Cheers !
Thanks Rob, considering buying the same PRS and appreciate your in depth review and sound samples - enjoyed hearing your lead playing.
Thank you, I hope the video helped.
@@robbolandsvids Definitely - I pulled the trigger and I've got one on the way!
Oh brilliant, it's a good solid guitar, I'm sure it'll do you well. I got the SE Hollowbody II Piezo at the end of last year, a very different beast, but a lot of fun with the added electro-acoustic pickup in it. I'll have a video on it very soon. All the best, Rob
